Our East Riding MYPs visit the House of Commons

Well what can I say about the House of Commons sitting and the Youth parliament. With an early start from Hull station, we set off to London. After some amazing debates in the House of Commons all day, listening to some really passionate young people. The young people debated about all the key priorities and voted for Voting at 16 and period poverty.

We then took a leisurely walk to Kings Cross station. When arriving and looking up at the digital screens, the nightmare word appeared “Delayed”. Myself and the young people then got called to the train, whilst sitting on the train for over an hour we were told that there had been an incident and no trains were leaving kings Cross station. I made the decision to get off the train and go to St Pancras station to try to get us out of London.

When arriving it was clear that thousands of other people had made the same decision. After missing the first train to Sheffield we managed to squeeze into the next train, which was extremely cramped and warm. We spent two and a bit hours stood up with a really anxious journey for us all. We then arrived in Sheffield with 5 minutes to get on the train to Hull, after a manic run we managed to get on the train. We then set off to Hull, we got to Hull at 00:40 after we should have arrived in Hull at 21:35.

What I will say is our two East Riding youth parliament members made me extremely proud. They dealt with this stressful, anxious and busy day with real maturity.
